What you can do with pulpDoc
- Open a Word file without Word. .docx, .doc, .rtf and .odt files open with their styles, tables, images, headers, footnotes, comments and tracked changes; a report says plainly what was simplified.
- Send back a real Word file. The .docx export keeps formatting, tables, footnotes, comments and tracked changes.
- Start from a template. About sixty templates: invoices, quotes, résumés, cover letters, brochures, menus, posters, business cards, plus French leases and administrative letters.
- Lay out pages your way. Place text, images, shapes and tables anywhere on the page, with snapping guides, repeating headers and footers and automatic page numbers.
- Print like a pro. PDF export with vector text, bleed and crop marks for the print shop.
- Proofread and dictate. A spelling checker in ten languages that runs on your device, and voice dictation with spoken punctuation.
- Review text with others. Track Changes and threaded comments, compatible with Word.
- Work your way. A Word-style ribbon, a Canva-style top bar, a Pages-style tabbed inspector, or the pulpDoc layout.
Who is it for?
For anyone who needs to write a letter, a résumé or an invoice and doesn't have Word at hand. For the self-employed and small businesses that send invoices, quotes, letterheads and brochures with a consistent look.
For people who receive Word documents to review: open the file, comment, track your changes, and send back a .docx that your contact opens in Word.
Your files
pulpDoc opens Word documents (.docx, .dotx, .docm, .doc), RTF, OpenDocument (.odt) and HTML, and saves in its own .pulp format. It exports to Word (.docx) and to PDF through the browser's print window. It does not write .odt, .doc or .rtf. A Word document's page count can differ slightly from Word's, nested tables are flattened, and text wrapping around images is not reproduced. Note that the templates' text is in French. Your documents stay in your device's browser or in the files you save.

Frequently asked questions
Can pulpDoc replace Word?
For writing, formatting, proofreading, commenting and exchanging .docx files, often yes. It still lacks some Word features, such as find and replace, an automatic table of contents, or text flowing from one page to the next as you type: each page holds frames that you place yourself.
How do I open a .docx file without Word?
Open pulpDoc, click Open a file and pick the .docx. It shows up in your browser, ready to edit, and you can export it again to .docx or PDF.
Are my documents sent to a server?
No. Documents stay on your device, and spelling is checked locally. Only the options you turn on send text out: the server-based grammar checker, dictation through the browser's engine, and the pulpAssist assistant.
Can I use the lease and letter templates outside France?
They follow French law, are written in French and are provided for guidance only. Check them against your situation and local rules, and ask a professional before signing anything important.
Can I make brochures and posters, as with Canva or Publisher?
Yes: A3 posters, tri-fold brochures, business cards and square posts, with bleed and crop marks. The PDF is RGB: a print shop that requires CMYK or PDF/X will need to convert it.
