What you can do with pulpPlan
- Build a Gantt chart online. Drag bars to move a task or change its duration, link two tasks with one gesture, and pick the scale (days, weeks, months, quarters).
- Open an MS Project file. Projects saved in Microsoft Project XML or MPX format open with their tasks, links, calendar, resources and baseline. GanttProject and CSV files too.
- Calculate the schedule. Durations in working days, finish-to-start, start-to-start, finish-to-finish and start-to-finish links with lag, date constraints, milestones and manual scheduling.
- See what matters. Critical path, a baseline to measure slippage, overdue tasks flagged, and a dashboard with progress, upcoming milestones and workload by person.
- Run the team. Owners, statuses, priorities, a Kanban board by status, a Calendar view and a week-by-week Workload view.
- Print a readable Gantt chart. Choose the period, scale, columns and paper up to A1, fit to a number of pages, and get a PDF through the browser.
- Work with MS Project users. Export to Microsoft Project XML, export CSV for a spreadsheet, and keep the lossless native .pplan format.
- Keep deadlines in view. Tasks and milestones show up in the pulpInbox calendar.
Who is it for?
pulpPlan is for project managers who receive MS Project schedules without owning a licence, small teams who want a Gantt chart and a Kanban board on the same project, and contractors or site managers who chain work packages that depend on each other. The Product launch, Construction and Event templates give you a concrete starting point.
Your projects stay on your device, and the app works offline once loaded.
Your files
pulpPlan opens Microsoft Project XML, MPX, GanttProject (.gan), CSV and its native .pplan files. It saves to .pplan and exports to Microsoft Project XML or CSV. The binary .mpp format is recognised but not read: pulpPlan explains how to save it as XML from Project. Task and resource calendars are not yet applied to the calculation, and the project calendar cannot yet be edited in the app.
Frequently asked questions
Is pulpPlan an online alternative to MS Project?
For planning, tracking and sharing a project, yes: Gantt chart, links, critical path, baseline, resources and XML export to Project. It does not level resources automatically and does not recalculate work for part-time assignments. The format details list the known limitations.
How do I open an MS Project (.mpp) file?
pulpPlan does not read .mpp files, a closed binary format. In Project, save the file in XML format, then open that file in pulpPlan: tasks, links, calendars and resources come across.
Can I send the schedule back to a Project user?
Yes: Export › MS Project (.xml) produces a file that Project opens, with the hierarchy, links, constraints, resources and baseline.
Are my projects sent to a server?
No. They are calculated and saved in your browser. Only the requests you make to pulpAssist go through the assistant gateway that has been set up.
