What you can do with pulpMotion

Who is it for?

Content creators, social media managers and small marketing teams who need short on-brand videos quickly: a brand kit (colours, fonts, logo) entered once applies to every template.

Motion designers looking for an After Effects alternative for simple jobs, for reviewing a project on another computer, or for producing a Lottie animation. pulpMotion uses familiar ideas (compositions, precomps, track mattes, masks, wiggle or loopOut expressions), but it does not replace After Effects for projects that depend on third-party effects, 3D or motion tracking.

Your files

pulpMotion saves projects as .pmotion files, media included, and also keeps them continuously in your browser. It opens After Effects files (.aep, .aepx), .mogrt templates, Lottie and dotLottie animations, and inserts PSD files (separate layers, RGB only) and SVG. The media of an After Effects project are not stored in the .aep: you relink them after opening. Lights, 3D model layers and effects with no equivalent are not kept. Video export runs in the browser and needs a recent Chrome or Edge.

Frequently asked questions

Can pulpMotion replace After Effects?

For titles, logo intros, social media videos and Lottie animations, yes. For projects built on third-party effects, lights, 3D or camera tracking, no: opening an .aep is partial and the import report lists what is missing.

Can I open an .aep file without After Effects?

Yes. Compositions, layers, keyframes, masks, mattes, text, shapes and expressions are kept; the project's videos and images must be relinked from your disk. The original file is never changed: your work is saved to a new .pmotion file.

Are my videos uploaded to a server?

No. Rendering, export and the AI automations all run on your device. AI models are downloaded once, with your consent.

Which browser do I need?

A recent browser with graphics acceleration. MP4 or WebM export needs Chrome or Edge; otherwise you can still export to GIF or PNG.
