pulpNote organizes your notes by case: a client, a matter, a building site, a project. Each case gathers tabs of notes, links to its tools, its contacts and, in an encrypted vault, its credentials. Everything stays on your device, in the browser, with nothing to install.
Getting started
The very first time you open pulpNote, a sample notebook (an Atelier Armor building project, a fictitious company: site meetings, tasks, links, contacts, a tracking table) appears on its own so you can see what pulpNote looks like. It is marked Example and is not saved: Start from scratch replaces it with an empty case, Remove the example clears it in one click, and creating a case or importing a file also makes it go away. If you change it, it becomes your notebook. File › See the example again reopens it without touching your cases (Back to my data to return to them).
- Open pulpNote and click New case. Give it a name; in Case settings, you can also pick a colour and a hashtag.
- Write in the page. Type / at the start of a line to insert a block: Heading 1 to Heading 3, Bulleted list, Numbered list, Checkbox, Callout, Divider, Links, Table, Contacts or Credentials.
- Add tabs with New tab (Ctrl+Alt+N), and sub-tabs to go deeper into a topic. The Case outline (Ctrl+\) shows the whole tree.
- Find anything with Search everywhere (Ctrl+K): cases, hashtags, tabs, text, links, contacts.
- Everything saves automatically on your device (Saved on this device). To keep a case in a file, use Ctrl+S (.pnote file) or File › Export.
Common tasks
How do I format quickly?
Type Markdown shortcuts at the start of a line: # then a space for a heading (##, ### for the next levels), - for a bullet, 1. for a numbered list, [] for a checkbox, > for a callout, --- for a divider. Select text to show the formatting bar (bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, code, link). Enter creates a new block and continues the list; Enter on an empty item leaves the list.
Paste several lines at once: each line becomes a block, and headings, bullets, numbered lists, checkboxes and callouts written in Markdown are recognized. Paste a web address over selected text to turn it into a link.
How do I keep the links and contacts of a case?
Insert a Links block (/ then “Links”) and paste the address of a tool or a site: it shows as a clickable link with its title. The Contacts block holds name, role, company, email and phone. In the text, Ctrl+Click opens a link.
How do I insert or paste a table?
Insert a Table block (/ then “Table”): it starts with three rows, three columns and a header row. Click in a cell to type. When you hover over the table, Add a row, Add a column and the Header row checkbox appear below it.
You can also paste straight into the page a table copied from pulpSheet, Excel, Word or a web page (or columns separated by tabs): it becomes a table block that keeps bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, links, fill and text colours, alignment, merged cells and the relative width of the columns. Inside a cell, pasting keeps the text only.
How do I protect my passwords in the vault?
- Insert a Credentials block and click Add a credential: service, username, password (the Generate button creates a strong one), an optional two-factor secret and confidential notes.
- The first time, pulpNote asks you to Create the vault: choose a Master password of at least 10 characters and the Lock automatically after delay (5 minutes by default).
- From then on, unlock the vault to see or copy a secret. Copy password clears it from the clipboard after 20 seconds; the 6-digit two-factor code shows on request.
- The vault locks itself after the chosen delay, when you leave pulpNote, or with Ctrl+Shift+L. The Vault button in the top bar opens its settings: Change master password, Reset the vault….
How do I import my Evernote notes?
In Evernote, export your notes as an .enex file. In pulpNote, open the file (File › Open… or drag and drop onto the window): a new case is created, with one page per note. Headings, lists, checkboxes, quotes, paragraphs, bold, italic and links are kept.
How do I import Markdown files, from Notion for example?
Open or drop a .md (or .txt) file: it becomes a page in the open case. Headings, lists, checkboxes, quotes, bold, italic and links are recognized; a Markdown table stays as text. Any tool that exports Markdown (Notion, for example) can therefore feed pulpNote, one file at a time.
How do I export or move a case?
File › Export: Page as Markdown (.md), Case as Markdown (.md) or Export everything (.pnote); a case's menu also offers Case as pulpNote (.pnote). In a .pnote, secrets stay encrypted; in Markdown, they are never exported. On another device, open the .pnote: pulpNote then asks for the original vault's master password to re-encrypt the secrets with yours.
How do I print or make a PDF?
Ctrl+P or File › Print… opens pulpNote's print window: This page, a tab and its sub-tabs, or The whole case; paper size (A4, Letter, Legal, A5), orientation, and which blocks to include (links, contacts, credentials). Secret values are always hidden. For a PDF, choose Save as PDF in the browser window. See also printing.
How do I tidy up, archive or delete?
A tab's menu lets you rename it (F2), duplicate it, turn it into a sub-tab, Move to case, or delete it. In Case settings, Archive removes the case from the bar (it stays under Archived cases) and Delete case… erases it from the device, with a chance to undo right afterwards.
Supported formats
| Format | Open | Save | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| pulpNote (.pnote) | Yes | Yes | One case or all of them; secrets always encrypted. Ctrl+S rewrites a case's .pnote. |
| Markdown (.md), text (.txt) | Yes | Yes (.md, export) | One page per file on import; export of a page or a case, tables included, without secrets. |
| Evernote (.enex) | Yes | No | One page per note; attachments and encrypted parts are not imported. |
| No | Yes (print) | Through Print…, secret values hidden. |
Known limitations:
- No images, attachments, ink or audio recordings in pages: pulpNote keeps structured text, tables, links, contacts and credentials.
- No direct import of OneNote notebooks (.one) or Notion: use a Markdown export when the tool offers one, or copy and paste. Pasting picks up the structure (headings, lists, tables), not other formatting.
- No sync between devices: move your cases with a .pnote file.
- No version history; a deletion can be undone right afterwards, from the message that appears.
- A case's hashtag is the same as in pulpInbox, but tagged emails are not filed there automatically yet.

AI in pulpNote
pulpNote has no built-in AI model. The suite's assistant, pulpAssist (Ctrl+J), can:
- read the open page and the case outline;
- add blocks to a page (headings, lists, checkboxes, quotes);
- create a tab, with some starting content.
Every addition is shown to you before it is made and can be undone. Credentials blocks are never shown to the assistant. pulpAssist uses the AI set up for your pulpSuite: the content attached to your question is sent to that service.
FAQ and troubleshooting
Where are my notes stored?
In this device's browser. Nothing is sent to a server. If you clear the site's data, or uninstall pulpSuite and choose to clear its data, the notes are gone: export your cases to .pnote regularly. See privacy.
I forgot my master password.
It cannot be recovered, and the secrets cannot be decrypted without it. In the vault settings, Reset the vault… erases passwords, confidential notes and two-factor secrets; service names and usernames remain.
pulpNote says “Local storage unavailable”.
pulpNote needs the browser's storage. In private browsing, or when the site is not allowed to store data, it cannot work: open pulpSuite in a normal window.
My Evernote notes have no images.
The .enex import does not bring in attachments. Keep the images elsewhere, or add the address where they are stored to a Links block.
Secrets imported from another device are marked “Other vault”.
They were encrypted by a different vault. Unlock your own vault first, then type the other vault's master password and click Re-encrypt.
How do I send a case during a pulpCrew meeting?
In pulpCrew, the Share a pulpSuite document button offers your cases (except archived ones) in pulpNote format (.pnote). Credentials stay encrypted in it: to read them, the recipient needs your vault's master password. See the pulpCrew help.
Does pulpNote work offline?
Yes, once loaded: writing, search, vault, import, export and printing. Only pulpAssist needs a network connection.
