Where your data lives and how to work with others

You can use pulpClient, pulpForge, pulpProduct, pulpArchive, pulpHome, pulpBuild, pulpSheet, pulpPlan and pulpSlide as simply as it gets: nothing to install, no server, no database to create, no account. This page presents the three ways of working, with their exact status: what is available today, what is coming later and what is planned.

Available today

On this device only

Your records are kept in your device's browser, with nothing else to do. It is the simplest way and ideal when you work alone. Remember the automatic backup and exports to change devices or protect yourself against a breakdown.

A shared file in a synced folder

The file sits in a folder you already sync: OneDrive, Nextcloud, kDrive or a company network drive. Everyone opens it from their computer and everyone's changes come together. It is a plain file: no database to install, no server to run, and nothing goes through a pulpSuite server. See Share a file with your team or your phone.

Direct exchange between devices

  • Between computers: when two computers have the same file open, they exchange their changes within moments, without waiting for the folder to sync.
  • My phone: you open your file on your phone by scanning a QR code from your computer.
  • Guest: you show a record (or have it completed) to someone, read only or able to edit, for as long as you choose.

In the last two cases the computer remains the reference: it must be on, with the app open.

Later: the pulpSuite server

The pulpSuite server will be the suite's future server: real-time changes for the whole team, per-person permissions (who can read, comment, edit) and access from phones and any browser, without relying on a computer left switched on. It is not available yet.

Planned: connect your own database

For companies that already have a database (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle, SQL Server), it is planned to connect the apps to that usual database, through the pulpSuite server installed on your premises. Your data then stays in your own tools, backed up and administered like the rest of your information system. This is not available and no date is announced.

Which one should I choose?

  • You work alone: stay on your device, with automatic backup.
  • A small team, computers, a shared folder already in place: the shared file is enough.
  • Showing or completing a record, checking on a phone: direct exchange.
  • Many people, precise permissions, real time: wait for the pulpSuite server.

FAQ

Does my data leave my device?

Not unless you decide so: with a shared file, it goes into the folder you chose, which your sync service copies. Nothing is sent to pulpSuite. See Privacy.

Do I need an account?

No, neither to work alone nor to share a file.

Can I switch from one way to another?

Yes. A personal file becomes a shared file with File › Save as a shared file…, and File › Back to this device's data does the opposite.
