The File menu is the same in every pulpSuite app: Open, Save, Save as, work folder and recent files. In Chrome and Edge, pulpSuite reads and writes your files directly on disk, like installed software.
Choose a work folder
- In any app, open the File menu.
- Click Choose a work folder… and pick a folder on your computer.
- Accept the request for read and write access.
The folder applies to the whole suite. Each app's File menu then lists the files it can open in that folder and its subfolders, most recent first, with a search box. One click opens a file.
- Change folder: pick another folder.
- Forget this folder: pulpSuite no longer has access to it. Your files are not touched.
Give access to the folder again
- pulpSuite installed as an app: access is kept, nothing to do (see Install pulpSuite).
- In a browser tab: the browser asks for access again each session. The File menu then shows Give access to “…” again. Choose Allow on every visit so the question doesn't come back.
Open and save
| Command | Shortcut | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Open… | Ctrl+O | Opens a file in a new document, next to the ones already open. |
| Save | Ctrl+S | Rewrites the open file, in the same place, when possible. |
| Save as… | Ctrl+Shift+S | Saves a copy under another name or in another place. |
Save only rewrites the original file when it is in the app's own format (.pulp for pulpDoc, .xlsx or .xlsm for pulpSheet, .pslide for pulpSlide, .pplan for pulpPlan, .pnote for pulpNote…). A file in another format is never overwritten: Save offers Save as instead. Some apps warn you before overwriting a file if parts of it would not be kept.
The first time you save to a file, the browser asks for permission to write to it.
Recent files
The Recent section of the File menu lists the files you last opened in the app, with the date. One click reopens them. If a file has been moved or deleted, pulpSuite tells you.
Backup copy in the folder
When a work folder is chosen and accessible, pulpSuite keeps a backup copy of the document on screen in the .pulpdesk-secours subfolder, never in place of your files. See Open documents and backup copies.
Share a file with a team
In pulpClient, pulpForge, pulpProduct, pulpArchive, pulpHome, pulpBuild, pulpSheet, pulpPlan and pulpSlide, a file can also be placed in a synchronized folder (OneDrive, Nextcloud, network drive…) so several people can work on it: see Sharing a file. This sharing doesn't go through any pulpSuite server.
Firefox and Safari
These browsers don't let a web page access a folder. The File menu says so: Open uses the file picker, and Save downloads the file to your downloads folder. To save back to the same place, use Chrome or Edge.
Frequently asked questions
Why don't some files in the folder show up?
The menu only shows files the app can open. Hidden files and Office temporary files (starting with ~$) are skipped, and the search stops two subfolder levels down.
Can pulpSuite change other files in my folder?
pulpSuite only writes when you save, and backup copies only go into .pulpdesk-secours.
